Utility worker who died following crash was loving, generous

A cross with a safety vest has been placed near where Amber Rooks, 24, of Norwood, was hit and killed by a car on April 22, 2015. Rooks, an employee for traffic safety control company Area Wide Protective, died April 25, 2015, in the hospital. She and four other workers were hit in the accident. Charges are pending against Michele Schuster, 23, of Cincinnati, who police say was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier north on Cox Road just south of Liberty Way when the vehicle went left of center. The vehicle then struck a traffic cone, a utility truck parked on the southbound shoulder of Cox Road and five utility workers, according to the West Chester Police Department. Schuster may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol and texting at the time of the crash, according to court records and a search warrant. GREG LYNCH / STAFF
